Discover the Heart of Ely’s Art Scene: NLAA’s 2025 Art Show Season

For over 30 years, the Northern Lakes Arts Association has been a beacon for creativity in Ely, MN, weaving a rich tapestry of visual art that reflects the diverse voices of our community. Our Art Show Season is not just an exhibition; it's a celebration of the transformative power of art, where each piece tells a story, and every artist becomes part of an evolving narrative that bridges past, present, and future.

Think back to 2022, when Al Reller’s dynamic abstracts electrified our space, juxtaposed against Leah Reusch’s intricate nature-inspired pieces that spoke to the very soul of our northern landscapes. In 2023, Parker Loew and Ellen Sandbeck each brought their unique visions to life, creating conversations that lingered long after their exhibits ended. And coming up next month, Sarah Bamford Siedelmann’s work will remind us how art can heal and inspire collective introspection.

The 2025 Art Show Season promises to continue this tradition, but with an even deeper commitment to inclusivity. We are focusing on amplifying the voices of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists, understanding that true representation is essential in shaping a more vibrant and equitable arts community. Each selected artist will receive a $500 stipend, a two-month exhibit, and a three-day artist residency, providing not just a space to display their work, but an opportunity to connect and inspire through workshops, talks, and community engagement.

Ely’s newly opened Ely Area Community Hub will serve as the backdrop for these transformative shows, further solidifying our town’s reputation as a cultural and artistic center in Northern Minnesota. Imagine your work gracing the walls of this dynamic space, sparking dialogue, and contributing to the cultural fabric of a community that values artistic expression and innovation.

Whether you are a local artist rooted in the landscapes of the Northwoods or a creator from afar looking to share your perspective, this is your chance to be part of something greater. Our history shows that each season brings fresh voices and new perspectives, enriching our community and expanding the boundaries of what art can be.

We invite you to apply and add your chapter to the ongoing story of NLAA’s Art Show Season. By joining us, you’re not just exhibiting art—you’re contributing to a legacy of creativity, inclusivity, and community impact.

Ready to make your mark? Applications are open until October 30th, 2024. Visit our website for more details, and reach out if you have any questions about our focus on supporting BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ artists. We believe in the power of art to build bridges and break barriers, and we’re excited to see how your work will shape the future of Ely’s artistic landscape.

Let’s continue to create, inspire, and transform—together.
